CarPlay / Android Auto for VE Commodore
Couldn't load pickup availability
This is by far the best CarPlay/Android Auto (CP/AA) kit for your IQ equipped VE Commodore, G8, Caprice, Calais. It is integrated like factory would have been.
Kit features:
- 100% plug and play, no wire splicing or soldering
- Wireless OR Wired CP/AA
- Automatic touch switching between OEM and CP/AA
- Listen to Radio, CD, USB, Bluetooth, RSE, or CP/AA while in CP/AA Mode
- Illumination dims with dash lights
- Steering wheel controls retained, including skipping audio from CP/AA forward and back*
- Access to CP/AA from steering wheel “Phone” button
- HSV EDI retained
- Factory DVD retained
- IQ Menu bar remains while in CP/AA
- MUCH higher image resolution compared to other kits
- HOLDEN logo for the home button to access CP/AA menu
This is the easiest CarPlay/Android Auto kit to use. No tedious pressing buttons to get the image full screen and switch the touch over manually, only to have to do it again once you go in and out of reverse!
Enter CarPlay by simply pressing the “Phone” button on the steering wheel or holding the “Config” button on the IQ. The mute button becomes your phone button. (Mute is not retained) all other steering wheel functions remain the same. The kit is quick to boot up, and is actually much faster than the Factory Navigation!
The kit is designed for easy install, with all OEM connectors and full, easy to read instructions. All done with basic hand tools.
Factory EDI, DVD, RSE, functions all retained.
The kit includes a USB adapter to make the factory console IQ USB socket the wired input to CP/AA (Series 2 only). Meaning, actual charging of our power thirsty devices. This is great for long trips.
We have not seen any significant power drain on phones from using wireless CP/AA.
Wireless Audio! Simply connect your phone to the IQ systems Bluetooth and to CP/AA wirelessly or wired. This means you use the factory IQ system’s microphone and speakers to make phone calls, and do not need to install this kits microphone. (Though one is supplied in each kit). Bluetooth audio direct from phone to the IQ system is the optimal solution, and is the best audio quality possible to the IQ. This means any audio input can be selected when in CP/AA mode. CD, Radio, Rear AUX, Bluetooth as well as DVD/RSE at any time.
There is no change to Phone call quality or ease of use. Phone calls are as they were without the CP/AA kit installed. Phone calls are answered and disconnected via pressing the right scroll steering wheel button.
If your car is fitted with EDI, you can switch between CP/AA and EDI by pressing the "Left Scroll” button twice in quick succession. If you have EDI fitted you must also purchase this additional EDI Switcher Link here *ONLY PURCHASED THIS IF YOU HAVE HSV EDI INSTALLED*
This kit requires that the EDI input on the IQ system be enabled. We offer programming in Melbourne. We also offer install in Melbourne. both an additional cost.
CARS WITH EDI ALREADY ENABLED DO NOT NEED TO BE PROGRAMMED.
Programming can be done via OBDsync. Programming is not included in the price. We highly recommend this product for your daily use. You can program any module in your car with ease, and use as a diagnostic device. Updates will include customisations and tuning. OBDsync is $200 which includes enough credits to program the IQ. Big bonus is the anti thief protection, It’s advised to unlock RSE and VIM. You can also choose to change the colour to Blue or Red or add factory reverse camera. OBDsync can be purchased from www.obdsync.com
Or you can go to many shops these days to get the programming done.
*Hardwired Audio is a physical connection between the CP/AA devices audio outputs and the IQ system audio inputs via the Rear Aux Input.
Vehicles with retrofitted IQ systems must either have the factory Series 2 Microphone (Highly Recommended) installed or purchase the "Hardwired Audio Harness" and install the supplied microphone. You will then use the "Rear AUX" input on the IQ to hear audio from your phone and make calls.
If your vehicle is not fitted with a factory Series 2 Microphone, our Hardwired Audio Harness can be purchased separately. The harness is extremely easy to install at a later date.* Link Here or you can install a factory Series 2 microphone (Recommended).
The Hardwired Audio Harness is not needed in factory Series 2 vehicles
*At this time Hardwired audio skip is not stable, and has been disabled. This is because if power is lost to the CP/AA device it forgets the skip data.
CP/AA - CarPlay/Android Auto
EDI - HSV Enhanced Driver Interface
RSE - Rear Seat Entertainment
VIM - Video In Motion
IQ - Holdens entertainment system installed in Series 2 VE Commodores
Hardwired Audio can be purchased Here

If your IQ system is retrofitted to your car and not factory please email us after purchase.
This kit will work on all IQ fitted VE, VXR8, G8, WM.
Common Questions
Interesting that audio plays directly through the IQ’s Bluetooth is better than through the aux port (can definitely hear the difference in the YouTube video).
- Yes, there is a massive difference in quality. The CarPlay audio is quite bad. This is why I didn’t want to use it. And because you loose all control.
I see that you were able to control playback directly from the IQ unit when connected via “aux” – are you able to skip tracks also either from the IQ buttons and steering wheel buttons? If this was the case then it has great benefits over the traditional aux connection where you lose all control over the connected device as it is an analog connection over aux.
- Yes, you can skip tracks with the IQ screen, IQ buttons and Steering wheel as before. I believe if you have “hey Siri” enabled you can even say “Skip track”.
This might suggest it is more than a traditional analog aux connection, and more so a USB connection. I assume it is a USB connection for the hard wire option, using the centre console input? This would be my preferred method as I would like the option of charging the device also.
